President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, 18 June, 2020, revealed his favorite brand of beer.
This, he revealed, not even with local media houses, but internationally during a live-streamed discussion with the Atlantic Council on the state of the U.S – African ties.
According to edaily.co.ke, the discussion moderator, British journalist, and the Financial Times correspondent, Katrina Manson asked him the question, which had come from a member of the public.
“I want to offer just one question from the members of the public that has come in; which is your favorite, Tusker or White Cap?” President Kenyatta was asked, to which he gave an amazing reply.
“Without a doubt, Tusker goes first but don’t tell Kenya Breweries that,” he said jokingly.
President Kenyatta has been widely known for having a liking of beer, which has been evident even in public functions where he has been ‘high.’ In July 13, 2017, while launching Ksh15 billion East African Breweries Limited bottling line in Kisumu, he drank a full mug of Senator Keg.
He noted that the brew was “safe and affordable”, having helped the government fight the menace of illicit brews. This, he echoed with the government’s measures to introduce an 80 % remission on the locally produced beers.
“This year, Treasury has done its part by introducing an 80 percent remission for beers made from sorghum, millet, and cassava. Quality brews such as Senator Keg will remain affordable for Wananchi and the makers and sellers of illicit brews will find life even harder,” he said.
According to edaily, his predecessor Mwai Kibaki was known to love White Cap beer while former late President Daniel Moi was said to love sacrament wine from Israel.
