What do you do with your Sunday nights? I hope you always tune into Sol Family. If not, what are you waiting for!

Kenya’s Award-Winning men-band Sauti Sol which has brought us the biggest hits of our time, feature in a reality show called Sol Family. The show premiered on 2nd August 2020 at 7:30 pm on Maisha Magic Plus (DStv channel 163). It was announced by Margaret Mathore who is the Channel Head of Maisha Magic Plus. The show is created and produced by Eugene Mbugua of Our Perfect Wedding and Story Yangu shows.

The 13-part series gives us a front seat to the work that goes on behind making the music with contributions from the management. It also gives us a glimpse into the personal lives of the band members Bien, Chimano, Savara and Polycarp. It also includes the Sol Generation signees Bensoul, Nviiri and the team behind their management that makes the magic happen. Bien and Polycarp’s wives and Savara’s girlfriend were also introduced in the show.

Sauti Sol is of Africa’s most successful acts having received numerous accolades including an MTV Africa Music Awards win for Best Group, a BET Awards nomination for the Best International Act and Best African Act MTV EMA. They have travel led and performed across Africa, Australia, the US and Europe.

The show is all we hoped it would be. It is very entertaining and at the same time family-friendly. From Chimano’s sensational laughter and sense of humour to Bien’s exaggeration, the show has managed to keep us glued to our seats when it airs and keep us talking after every episode.

We have seen them take Covid-19 tests, go house hunting, do house renovations and even drive a car with two blindfolded men in the back seat and being stopped by the police. One other person who also features in the show from time to time and stands out is their Italian Interior Designer, Max. Although he’s not a regular, he adds some spice to the show with his unique personality.

The show has painted us with a picture of Sauti Sol’s efforts to remain grounded and maintain their humility and discipline. With all the accolades and hits after hits, they did not let the fame get the better of them. It’s also satisfying to see how close nit they are even after years of being together. They are one of the few bands in Kenya to be together for this long.

I urge everyone who hasn’t watched Sol Family, to start watching it. It will not disappoint you. With the pandemic creating a gloomy atmosphere, we all need something to bring back our high spirits, motivation and laughter. That something is Sol Family.
