Arsenal Football Club has shocked the world by signing a Brazilian star from direct rivals Chelsea.
David Luiz joined the Gunners of the fateful transfer deadline day after reports suggested that he chickened out of his position under new manager Frank Lampard.
The former Benefica and PSG star joined his former PSG Manager Unai Emery at the North London Club on a reported fee of a paltry eight million pounds.
Luiz joins Arsenal less than four years after Chelsea again released their legendary star Petr Cech to Arsenal.
British tabloids had claimed that Frank Lampard had told Luiz to improve on his defense especially after Chelsea conceded so many “silly” goals during the pre-season, a message that didn’t ogre well with Luiz. By that note, Luiz felt that it could be Lampard’s other way of telling him that he would not be starting anymore, prompting the Brazilian to chicken out.
Prior to the move, Lampard had even asked Luiz to train away from the senior team apparently to avoid any dirty scenes from the dressing room and a warning to the rest of the squad members who don’t have the interest of the club at heart.
Luiz made 523 club records and the move could be a plus for Arsenal.
Despite high profile signings in Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona, Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid, Pierre Aubamayang from Borrusia Dortmund as well as Alexandre Lacazette from Monaco, Arsenal have literally refused to win the Premier League, clocking the 15th anniversary now since they last laid their hands on the precious trophy.
