Police detectives on Wednesday nabbed 80 boxes of customized cigarette worth over Ksh. 6 million at Salgaa, long Eldoret-Nakuru Highway.
According to the police statement, two suspects who include the lorry driver and owner were arrested during the ambush, where the boxes were found.
“80 BOXES Containing Uncustomed Cigarettes worth Ksh 6 Million were today recovered by @DCI-Kenya detectives based at Parklands. Acting on Intelligence, the detectives laid an ambush at Salgaa Area along Eldoret-Nakuru highway,” read the statement.
The further revealed how they caught the suspects, by intercepting the two lorries where they arrested the two suspects.
“They Intercepted a Lorry Reg. No. KCC 226V and Isuzu FRR that was being driven by one Joel Mwai Maina. Joseph King’ori M’Ikamati, the owner of the said lorry was also arrested during the operation,” the police said.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation, two more lorries believed to have been loaded at Busia border and ferrying similar goods are still being sought after.
