Cherang’anyi MP Joshua Kutuny and Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen have on Tuesday evening exchanged bitterly on a live show following Deputy President William Ruto’s alleged involvement in the maize scandal.

Appearing on Citizen Tv’s #NewsNight show hosted by Hussein Mohammed, the Cherang’anyi legislator, who has on record been accusing the DP of damaging the maize sector, continued with his onslaught on the country’s Number Two, something that didn’t ogre well with the Senate Majority Leader.

This was barely a week after Mr Kutuny led other Jubilee legislators in calling for an investigation into Ruto’s maize deals that have left the farmers cursing.

But while appearing on the show this evening, Senator Murkomen castigated the seemingly calm and composed Kutuny for victimising the DP despite Ruto “picking Kutunyi from the street to make him who he is”.

“In fact, you should stop attacking Ruto because he made you who you are after picking you from the streets.” Said the agitated Murkomen.

In response, Kutuny reminded the Senator: “You should also stop attacking me because I used to give you money when you were still poor. Now see yourself”.

However, Hussein did not allow them to go personal in their exchanges but brought them back to the topic of the day.

This was after Murkomen had suggested that the only solution to the ailing maize farming is for farmers to ditch the crop and try planting other farm products, a statement that has irked many social media users.

There has been a controversy between the farmers and the government over the payment of maize supplied to the stores.

According to Cabinet Secretary for Devolution Mwangi Kiunjuri, the government is keen on paying all the farmers their dues. What angers the farmers is the price per bag which Mr Kutuny says it’s Ksh2,300 contrary to the Ksh3,200 that the farmers expect.

As a result, the MP points at Deputy President William Ruto as one of the cartels ailing the maize industry after one of the companies under investigation for receiving hefty suspicious payments being linked to Ruto.

Mr Kutuny, a former Ruto alie and Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter have continuously called upon the DP to come out clear on the maize scandal.
