There was unimaginable pomp and colour in Harambee Village, Kholera ward as thousand residents drummed up support for Athman Wangara.
Mr. Wangara, who was launching his bid at his rural home, was visited by close to two thousand residents drawn from all the five wards of Matungu Constituency to offer overwhelming support for the immediate former NG-CDF Chairman.
The Corporate Communications consultant is among the ten aspirants participating in the mini-poll following the demise of former MP Justus Murunga.
Clan elders, clergy, teachers and bodaboda operators flocked into Wangara’s home on Saturday 2nd January, 2021 in song and dance to witness the journalist deliver his acceptance speech.
This is after locals pressured Wangara to vie for the seat, saying he is the best person to progress the good will of the people of Matungu.
“We know that having worked with the late MP as his CDF Chairman, there’s no better replacement that knows the needs of these good people of Matungu than you Mr. Athman Wangara,” said the Mumias Central Ward legislative aspirant Musa Bilali whose sentiments were echoed by his friend Athman Shikanda.
Matungu Constituency Manager Ismael Mbundi hailed Wangara’s track record at the NG-CDF office albeit the short time that he has served.
“When Wangara came to the CDF office, his impact was immediately felt across the divide among them the bursary disbursement to the needy but students in Matungu Constituency,” he said.
On his side, Wangara promised to complete the projects left by the late Murunga, saying he already know the roadmap of development that will boost the livelihood of the people of Matungu.
“I will ensure that all the projects are completed on time before the end of next year and we will move with speed to make the people of Matungu more proud than never imagined,” said Wangara, whose 48 minute-speech was cheered throughout by the seemingly excited gathering.
It will be the first time that Wangara will be seeking an elective seat.
Wangara has been widely viewed as a front-runner despite vying as an Independent candidate in the mini-poll slated for March 4, 2021.
His campaign slogan #PampjaTukamilishe (let’s complete together) has attracted admiration from the locals.
