Police are investigating an incident in which a man allegedly committed suicide while at his girlfriend’s house in Makueni County, Kenya.

The 32 year old allegedly strangled himself using his own jacket after his girlfriend had allegedly retired to bed, leaving him to continue watching the match.

The incident happened in Wote town.

The girlfriend, whose name we are yet to establish, told the police that she woke up at around 4am to find the body of her man hanging from the roof of the house after she left him watching English Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United in a FA Cup tie. The football clash ended 3-1 in favour of Chelsea.

According to the lady, they had not quarrelled on that night, wondering why he had to take his own life.

The man’s body is being preserved at the Makueni Referral Hospital mortuary.

The woman is currently assisting the police with investigation as her house is a single room.

“Since it was a single room, this raised suspicions. We have arrested the lady to help in investigations over the boyfriend’s death. If there was foul play, the post-mortem would tell,” said Makueni Sub-County Police Commander John Maina said.
