Kenya’s Worls Women’s Marathon record holder Bridgit Kosgei has won this year’s London Marathon.

The 26 year-old overcame heavy rain and terrible weather to cross the finish line on 2:18:58, running short of her own world record of 2:14:04 achieved on 13 October 2019 at the Chicago Marathon.

The two-time Chicago Marathon winner in 2018 and 2019 had pulled the lead in the first half of the race with fellow Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich but towards the last mile, Kosgei sprinted alone to the finish line, even managing to flower out several smiles on her face with seven kilometres to go.

However, it was disappointing for Chepngetich who eventually lost out to Britain’s Sarah Hall who stole the second place with 22 seconds to go.

Despite the third place, Kenyans will still brace on with proud in dominating the top three positions.

All eyes are now on Men’s World Record holder Eliud Kipchoge whose race has just kicked off some two minutes ago.
