Kenyans took their reactions to twitter following the withdrawal of betting company Sportpesa from sponsoring local sports.
In a move seen as ‘punishing’ the government in it’s efforts to uplift local sports, Sportpesa CEO Ronald Karaori wrote to various clubs on the move by the company to terminate it’s sponsorship, citing the 35% tax that the government is demanding from the firm’s yearly profit.
The parliament passed a bill that requires the government to take 35% of the profit the betting firms makes on a yearly basis but apparently this didn’t ogre well with the investor.
As a result, Kenyans on twitter, popularly known as #KOT, took to the social media platform with some expressing their support for the company as others supported the government’s move.
Behind every story of wealth, is a great crime. When a Kenyan startup by the name of SportPesa went throwing wards of cash to foreign clubs, it left everyone baffled.
Do Kenyans bet that much? How did this happen in the first place? (THREAD)

As Sportpesa cancels all local sports sponsorships with immediate effect owing to the 35% tax hike, it is about time Kenyan youths cancelled their increasingly worrying addiction to gambling and betting owing to the risk to their future aspirations.

People are blaming Sportpesa for the betting addiction.
But nobody blames EABL for alcohol addiction.

BETTING is where each of 1 million beggars donates Sh. 100 to a billionaire EVERY DAY, and he thanks them by rewarding ONE OF THEM with Sh. 1 million per month.

I think politicians in government are jealous of the Sportpesa people since it is like they outsmarted them . They could not think that actually people can make billions of money without having to steal from the government.

I'm reading comments on Sportpesa sponsorship withdrawal & a good number are saying they'd rather waste & trust betting companies with their money than give the 35% to GoK.
You mean you don't trust your govt that much yet you voted them just recently?😂 Appalling!
