Kenyans flooded to twitter to express their feelings and views following the resignation of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s deputy Polycarp Igathe.
In a letter seen by Wakajuaness.Com and addresed to Governor Sonko’s office, the ever- clean-shaved Igathe (pictured) thanked Nairobians for giving him a chance to serve them.
“I write to resign my seat at elected Deputy Governor for Nairobi City County effective from 1PM of Wednesday 31st January 2018.” Read the letter which was also copied to the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Hon Beatrice Elachi.
“Serving the Nairibians has been an honour and I wish to thank you and the Nairobians for giving me a chance to serve.
There have been reports of friction between the duo amid growing critisisms against Sonko’s delivery with the Governor recently forced to post screenshots of his text conversation with Hon Igathe to prove the two are on good terms.
Igathe’s resignation comes as a surprise, being the first Deputy Governor to tender a resignation letter in Kenya since devolution was established in 2013.
Mr Sonko and Igathe were elected on August 8 last year, replacing Governor Evans Kidero and Jonathan Mueke respectively in a hotly-contested election.
However, as routine after a major public announcement, Kenyans would not let the flamboyant Governor enjoy a rest, with many making fun out of the situation.
Mike Sonko wants to work as a pig , Polycarp Igathe wants to work as a cat . Sonko loves it dirty. Igathe wants it official and done in a gentleman way. Couldn't blend.

Polycarp Igathe's resignation is the beginning of Governor Mike Sonko's fall. Mt Kenya will come for Sonko…… to reclaim what "belongs to them"
