Details of the crooked allowances pocketed by the ever hungry Bungoma County Members of the Assembly have now emerged.
According to the data obtained by Wakajuaness.Com, the 60 MCAs, both elected and nominated, reportedly took home a whopping Sh430,477,935 during this year’s financial return.
The details of how a paltry 60 individuals managed to pocket such an amount is not only shocking but also unethical especially during this time of the pandemic.
The data, obtained from a source within the Assembly parameters, shows that the legislators took home a combined House Allowances of Ksh56,129,600 the whole year.
Their good life was topped up by another Overtime Allowance of Sh500,000 in addition to Responsibility Allowances of Sh11,640,000.
Their road work activities were not left behind as they scooped a combined allowance of Sh35,163,816 before enjoying another Leave Allowance of Ksh440,000 as well as an Administrative allowance of Sh3,816,000.
Having been elected to represent the residents at the County Assembly where they are already on payroll, the selfish MCAs still took home Assembly Attendance of Sh95,596,800. This is tantamount to giving a high school teacher who is paid to be at school, an allowance called ‘school going days allowance.’
Other allowances include:
Field operational Allowance – 9,801,320
Daily Substance allowance- 900,000
Travel allowance – 5,000,000
Tuition fee – 5,585,750
Conference Allowances – 202,904,649.
Additionally, the County Assembly has a Committee for each of the 10 Ministries of the County Government Execetive but the most powerful and lucrative Committees are:
(1) House Business – sets House Agenda
(5) Liaisons (Made of Committee Chairpersons).
These five committees gobble up 3/4 of Committee allowances. Each Committee has 15 members. Interestingly, its the same faces that sit on each of these five committees in the house.
Even as the Country marks almost a decade of devolution, it’s turning up that the devolved units, which were supposed to benefit the residents, is majorly benefiting a few as thousands sleep on empty intestines.
From the totals above, the MCAs are taking home an average of Sh7,500,000 per individual as their residents trek kilometres and kilometres in search of water and medical services.
Funny enough, the same MCAs have been pausing as the anti-graft Reverends who preach preach glucose and eat swallow sacks of unga.
Last month, this site also exposed the rampant corruption at the County Assembly department where a series of looting has been taking place in full view of the County Speaker Mr. Emmanuel Situma and his Clerk Mr. John Mosong’o who is seeking a parliamentary seat in his home County of Kisii.
