The government on Wednesday beefed up the national security, after officially transferring the Kenya Meat Comission (KMC) from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Irrigation to the Ministry of Defence.

In an internal memo seen by Wakajuaness.Com and signed by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Peter Munya, the Kenya Meat Comission will now be under the Ministry of defence after being transferred by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Following the transfer of Ministerial Responsibility of the Kenya Meat Comission to the Ministry of Defence by H.E President, you are directed to facilitate a seamless transfer of the Kenya Meat Comission to the Ministry of Defence.”

“Ensure that you coordinate the entire exercise with the National Treasury and transfer the associated budgets at the next scheduled Supplementary Budget. You re required to submit a fortnight report to my office on the progress made” the statement read.

It is not yet clear why the president moved the Comission from the Ministry of Agriculture, with a section of Kenya terming the move as “militarisation” of the country.
