There was another drama at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma County when a swarm of bees invaded the pitch to disrupt a premier league match.
The match between home side Nzoia Sugar FC and Ulinzi Stars had lasted barely twenty-seven minutes when the insects jetted into the pitch from no where prompting centre referee to pause the match and instruct the players to lie flat on the ground as the bees chanted beautiful hymns apparently to welcome the new year.
The millers were already leading 1-0 courtesy of Hansel Ochieng’ before everyone on the pitch saw the reality of applying King Monada’s popular Malwedhe dance challenge.
However, the aerial visitors left the pitch leaving everyone unharmed in a now familiar habit witnessed at the same venue less than fifteen months ago.
On August 7, 2017, a swarm of bees invaded the same pitch in the same first half when the same Nzoia FC were leading a similar 1-0 against Posta Rangers, prompting everyone on the pitch to seek safety on the ground. The match went ahead to end 1-0, unlike today’s edition where Hanzel Ochieng went ahead to add another goal to make it 2-0 at full time.
The incident should now put AFC Leopards in jeopardy as they prepare to face Nzoia in the next match.
