Bungoma Governor H.E Wycliffe Wangamati played host to the Danish Ambassador H.E Mette Knudsen where the leaders shared various areas of partnership and collaborations key among them health and Agriculture.
The highlight of the talks culminated into the visit to the controversial Chwele chicken slaughterhouse. So why the chicken slaughterhouse house and why Denmark?
DENMARK IS KEY
Well, For starters, Denmark is a leading exporter of chicken and chicken products to Europe and other countries. From chicken rearing, production, packaging and all along the value chain, the sector contributes hugely to Denmark’s economy.
With the Bungoma trip, the ambassador was offered an opportunity on how the chicken sector can be harnessed with their partnership.
For instance this Danish company: Konspol Bis is one of Europe’s leading slaughterhouses for chicken which is air-cooled, with production capacity of 12 thousand chickens per hour.
The plant possesses international quality certificates, including BRC and Halal. Konspol bis also houses modern production lines for convenience food. The Company Employees thousands along thx value chain and supplies it’s products within and beyond Denmark.
WRONG POLICY FOR SLAUGHTERHOUSE
The Chwele chicken slaughterhouse a first of its own started by the previous regime was marred with scandals and the famous wheelbarrow scandal that had officials apprehended and the project abandoned in its final stages.
Prior to the election, the Project was a political tool and cost the previous government.
With the coming of a new regime, Governor Wangamati made it clear that he will strive to finish stalled projects even as he focuses on his key areas for Bungoma people. The slaughterhouse is one project the Governor has embarked on with support from the Danish Ambassador.
With such a partnership between the Danish government and Bungoma county, the Chwele chicken slaughterhouse has been offered a life to impact the economy of Bungoma and correct on previous mistakes.
If the partnership can be well pursued and supported, the slaughterhouse can be a great industry with renewed hope after the scandalous wheelbarrow scandal to tap into the chicken rich county.
For now, Bungoma people keep an eye on hoping it’s a new dawn to the idle facility and the Politics that come along.
