Embakasi Member of Parliament Paul Ongili, commonly known as Babu Owino on Wednesday took to his Twitter account to make a statement that has now put him in hot soup, facing wrath from a number of netizens.

The outspoken MP has of late been a darling of many following his Friday Chemistry and Mathematics online classes to this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary School(KCSE) candidates, but it seems the same Kenyans are yet to forgive him on his previous sins.

Making a post in his account, the MP said that in the political field, any publicity, be it negative or positive, is still good publicity to the politician.

“In politics publicity is publicity. Negative publicity is extremely good publicity,” he said.

The statement however seemed to get a section of Kenyans On Twitter (KOT) on the wrong foot, as while some agreed with him, others understood the statement in another way, reminding him of his past wrongdoings.

This includes some who reminded him of the case where the MP was recorded live on a CCTV camera shooting DJ Evolve at B-Club in Kilimani, Nairobi. It is an incident which sparked outrageous emotions from the public.

DJ Evolve was admitted at Nairobi Hospital while Babu Owino faced attempted murder charges in court. Here are some of the reactions from netizens:

“The speechless & immobile DJ Evolve in Nairobi Hospital coz you shot him is extremely good publicity huh” said one user, Dee. Another user, @augemia wondered if the parliamentarian was referring to Deputy President William Ruto.
