The Kenya Ambassador to DRC Ambassador Dr. George Sirengo Masafu joined fans of West FMand Mumbo FM in a rare show of unity to fundraise medical expenses for veteran musician Mzee Otunguli.
The unique fundraising on radio was spearheaded by fans of the two sister radio stations who roped in Ambassador Dr. Masafu to achieve set targets of offsetting the piling medical bills.
Mzee Otunguli has been battling terminal illness, characterized by a growth in his intestines. Further tests will now be carried out on Tuesday to ascertain the exact illness before doctors prefer necessary treatment.
Ambassador Masafu, who is also the Director of West Media that consists of West FM, West TV and Mumbo FM, has also offered to construct a decent house for the musician due to the poor state of his current structure.
In his message of gratitude, Mzee Otunguli thanked Ambassador and the fans immensely for coming to his aid at a critical hour of need. He further urged leaders to come out strongly to support talent by helping in solving the challenges bedevilling the industry.
“Musicians face alot of challenges which require the attention of our leaders for the industry to flourish and be beneficial to musicians as they offer education and entertainment. I thank West FM, Mumbo FM fans and Ambassador Dr. Masafu for coming to my aid at the hour of need,” Said Mzee Otunguli.
Ambassador Masafu on his part promised to play a much bigger role in ensuring musicians in Bungoma county maximize on their talent, use music productively to impact society positively and earn a living from it.
Mzee Otunguli, a veteran musician of the times of Wasike wa Musungu, hails from Khelela village in Bumula Subcounty.
