All Set for 2018 Magharibi Michezo Awards in Bungoma as Nominees List is Out.

The Magharibi Michezo nomination Academy has released nominees for this year’s awards ceremony set to be held on
Saturday 22nd December at the Tourist Hotel Bungoma.

This will be the 6th edition of the annual Sports excellence awards for the Magharibi Region.

 

The nominees have been selected from
five disciplines namely Volleyball, soccer, Basketball, Hockey, and Rugby after a competitive season.

 

The team is also expected to announce a selected list of most promising Stars and nominees for a newly introduced category of Sports personality of the decade.

 

Making it back to the final list of nominees is last year’s winner Patrick Matasi who recently made a major move to Ethiopian side St. Georges.

 

Matasi, Broke into the national team
starting XI and made the number one jersey his own and played a crucial role in Stars’ AFCON qualification with three straight clean sheets.

 

Just like Matasi, Dennis Odhiambo
formerly of St. Anthony’s Kitale played a crucial role for Harambee Stars in
his return to the national team. He was at the heart of the 1-0 win over Ghana and also played crucial roles in the two matches against Ethiopia.

 

Gor Mahia captain Harun Shakava has had
a stellar season where he marshaled the Green army to their first ever CAF Confederations Cup group stages and also played a crucial role as they defended
their KPL title, winning it a record 17th time.

 

Other on the list of soccer stars are
Marvin Nabwire of AFC Leopards, Bandari’s Farouk Shikalo and Vihiga United’s
Amos Kigadi.

 

Among those who have been nominated for
this year’s awards include young setter Joy Lusenaka and last year’s overall MMA winner Edith Wisa.

 

Others include Leonida Kasaya, Metrine
Wabwile and Sharon Chepchumba.

The men’s edition will be a tight race
after a very explosive season that saw GSU retain their title over Kenya Prison. These will include Brian Melly, Sam Juma, Abiud Chirchir, Kelly Omusa and Elijah Bosire.

 

The MMA Organizing team has also introduced a category for the Sports Personality of the Decade that will feature those athletes who have excelled in their respective disciplines over the past decade.

 

Among those who have been selected to compete for this coveted title include Mercy Moim of Kenya Prisons, longest serving setter Janet Wanja of Kenya Pipeline and long serving captain Braxcides Khadambi. 

 

Others are former national women team  international Doreen Nabwire and International rugby Star Collins Injera.

The Magharibi Michezo Awards (MMA) is the premier sports awards ceremony in Western Kenya geared towards rewarding the achievements of the region’s athletes while celebrating the excellence of our Sportsmen and Women as well as encourages the next crop of sporting talent across the sports spectrum.

The MMA also seek to recognize the efforts of those individuals who have in one way or another nurtured and/or mentored the region’s sports icons. The awards are designed to be all encompassing, rewarding competitors from all sporting disciplines right to the grass root Level rather than simply focusing on the main professional sports.
